Taras Bulba 1962 movie Yugoslavia+USA
Mar. 13th, 2016 01:15 pmTaras Bulba is based on real events, which justifies making a historical drama with little in common with the original book. A great epic from the days with no CGI but real cavalry on one hand, but painted eyes and ridiculous dress on the other ;) 4/5 For it's a great and inspiring improvement of the story from creator of Gothic literature, known well beyond Ukraine (e.g. Gogol has inspired Japanese Acutagawa).
However, the accurate rendering of this book in Russia turned out to be exactly as meant - blunt propaganda of hatred to Poland, which is historically unjust (USA,Britain,Holland,Germany and Switzerland were all formed as the result of anti-papal rebellions, as after Columbus the Vatican turned aggressive against Christian dissidents, so this movie actually explains the History in part. Watch Luther movie to understand how could brother nations turn against each other back then).
BTW I've been to Dubno - it's vicinity has been a fortress in WWI AND EVEN WWII, it's still the border of our land ;)
